Social Action Media has been producing documentaries about race and social justice for more than 30 years. As a production company, we seek out inspiring stories of perseverance and resistance with the goal of inspiring younger people to join the fight for justice.
FILMS FOR JUSTICE
Current Films: We are currently in production on two films—Waging Change, a documentary about the challenges faced by restaurant servers surviving on a sub-minimum wage of $2.13 an hour and their efforts for One Fair Wage, featuring Saru Jayaraman, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin, and Barbara Lee: Speaking Truth to Power, highlighting Congresswoman Barbara Lee's advocacy. Our most recent release is the award-winning documentary, And Then They Came for Us, addressing the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans and dispelling its use as precedent for a Muslim ban or registry. Agents of Change is a compelling documentary about the black-led student protest movement of the late 1960s and its impact on creating Black and Ethnic Studies programs nationwide. Soft Vengeance: Albie Sachs and the New South Africa, which won a Peabody award in 2015, has screened at festivals worldwide and won four audience awards for Best Documentary.
